From the trail to the nest
Ant control for homes and gardens
Ants suddenly appear in a long line across the kitchen counter or around the sugar bowl, disappear, then come back the next day. It may seem a small problem, but it’s annoying when they reach food, some species sting, and some build nests inside walls or under tiles. Spraying the ants you see rarely solves it, because the nest stays out of sight.
Successful treatment starts with knowing the species and where the nest is, then treating the source. With SaudiPestControl you describe the problem once, and your request reaches licensed pest control companies in your city who contact you with offers.

When do ants need treatment?
These signs help you judge the size of the problem:
Recurring trails
Lines of ants coming back every day to the kitchen or dining room despite cleaning.
Small soil piles
Fine soil near tile joints, wall edges or in the garden suggests a nest nearby.
Ants inside fittings
Ants appearing inside sockets, appliances or behind tiles.
Winged ants
Winged ants indoors — worth an inspection to tell them apart from termites.
Why ants come indoors
Ants look for food and water. Scouts explore, and when they find a source they leave a scent trail for the rest to follow — which is why you see the same line every day. Sugars, grease, pet food and water collecting in bathrooms attract them most.
Nests live in gardens, under outdoor paving and in wall cracks, sometimes in the voids around pipes and service lines. Activity rises in summer, and ants may come indoors looking for water on the hottest days.
It’s important to tell ordinary ants from termites, which are completely different in damage and treatment. If you see mud tubes or hollow wood, read about termite control.
Why you need a specialist company
Spraying visible ants only kills nearby workers; the queen and nest remain, the ants come back within days, and the nest may split into smaller nests in new places. A specialist company identifies the species, follows the trails to the nest and chooses a treatment that reaches the source.
It also uses approved products, keeps them away from food, children and pets, and advises you on what reduces the ants’ return. We don’t recommend using professional pesticides in the kitchen yourself.
What a treatment usually includes
Inspection and tracing
Identifying the species and following its trails inside and outside the home to the nest.
Treating the source
Treating nests and trails with methods suited to kitchens and gardens.
Treating the perimeter
Treating where ants get in around doors, windows and walls when needed.
Follow-up
A visit or check-in to confirm the trails have stopped, and treating what remains.
How to prepare
- Don’t spray the trails before the technician’s visit — they help trace the ants to the nest.
- Keep food and sweet things in sealed containers, and move pet food away.
- Clean surfaces of food residue and sweet liquids.
- Tell the technician where and when the ants appear.
- Tell the company about young children or pets.
Safety during and after treatment
Follow the company’s instructions on covering food, when to use the kitchen and garden, and ventilation. Don’t wipe treated areas before the time the technician gives, as that can reduce the treatment’s effect.
Keep children and pets away from treated areas until the technician says it’s fine. If someone is stung by ants and shows clear signs of an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing or facial swelling, seek medical help immediately.
How to reduce the ants’ return
- Wipe surfaces daily and don’t leave dishes or sweet drinks out.
- Keep sugar, honey and grains in sealed containers.
- Fix leaks in bathrooms and the kitchen — ants look for water too.
- Seal cracks around windows, doors and tile joints.
- Trim plants that touch the walls in the garden.
What to ask the company
- Does the company hold a valid licence?
- Will you identify the ant species and the nest?
- Which products are used in the kitchen, and are they approved?
- Does the treatment include the garden and the outside perimeter?
- What is your re-treatment policy if the ants return?
- Will you also check for termites?
What decides the price?
The cost depends on:
- The size of the home and garden.
- How many trails and nests there are and how widespread.
- The ant species and the suitable treatment method.
- Indoor treatment only, or indoor and outdoor.
- The number of visits, or a regular preventive contract.

Ant control: FAQ
Why do ants come back after spraying?
Because spraying only kills what’s visible while the nest and queen remain. Successful treatment reaches the source.
Do ordinary ants damage the building?
Most species don’t, but they are a nuisance and contaminate food. Termites damage wood and need a different treatment.
Can the kitchen be treated without emptying everything?
It depends on the method; often storing food and covering surfaces is enough. Follow the technician’s instructions.
When are ants most active?
Usually in the hot months, and they may come indoors looking for water.
Do you cover gardens and villas?
Yes — mention the garden in your request so it’s included in the inspection and offer.
Is general spraying enough for ants?
General spraying may reduce insects overall, but ants usually need treatment aimed at the nests. Read about general spraying.
